Volume confirmation without overcomplicating the chart
Three volume checks that fit on a sticky note — enough for discretionary chart work without indicator clutter.
Volume does not need a panel of oscillators to be useful. For discretionary technical analysis, three comparisons cover most decisions: relative to the prior bar, relative to the twenty-session average, and relative to the move’s starting impulse.
A break of structure on below-average volume is a yellow flag. It can still work, but position size should reflect the weaker sponsorship. Breaks that print well above the recent average deserve attention even if the candle shape looks ordinary.
Compare volume on the pullback to volume on the impulse. Healthy trends often show lighter volume on corrective legs. When the pullback prints heavier volume than the impulse, ask whether the trend is absorbing supply or transferring it.
Write the three checks beside your entry rule. If you cannot answer them in under a minute, the chart is not ready for a discretionary trade.
